It’s been a minute since we chatted. Which I was not planning on it being so long since I last wrote. Thankfully though, today’s mini update is a positive one.
Last week was the light at the end of the tunnel regarding the cyber incident. As of last Friday, I am back to work.
Friday was my day of feeling like a newborn giraffe, of trying to remember how to do my job after almost two months of being offline. But at the same time, rusty ol’ me was just glad to feel normal and productive again.
In between my last post and tonight’s, I had a few happy things happen:
1.) Mom and I went to the Dublin Irish Festival. In spite of living in Columbus almost nine years, I had never made my way up to the Festival. It was hot but a lot of fun. We ended the weekend with a Sunday morning swim at the pool. No one else was there, which might have been the highlight of the weekend.
2.) Two weekends ago I rode up to Mount Vernon and back, completing a 50-mile round trip. This is my second-longest trip, right after riding 57 miles in Pelotonia. I got to bike through the Ariel-Foundation Park, which I’ve been wanting to visit for a little bit. Next time Mom comes out to visit we’re taking a trip northeast to the park.
3.) This past week I finally started running again. I finally accepted that life priorities look a little different this time, and weekend long runs aren’t going to be where the magic happens. So I went back to the tried ‘n true: running four consecutive weekdays, 6-6-7-6. Last week was the breaking in week, and after Day Four I was whooped. But I wasn’t losing a lot of endurance gains either, which is what I want to see.
This now brings us to today. At the same time as the kids are boarding the yellow buses, I got up and felt like I was in the back-to-school swing of things myself.
My energy levels were great this morning when it was time to get ready for my run. I was out the door on time – which has been a struggle over the past two months – and got six miles in before 7:15.
Then it was time for a shower, washing my hair and being ready to log on at 8 AM.
After Friday’s slow start, today at work was busy. It turns out the days move a lot faster when you actually have things to do. But I got it done by 5.
And this weekend, I finally buckled down to study for the AU61. I made progress that I’m happy with. I can’t say I’m feeling confident quite yet for the exam, but I feel a lot better about the material from before.
It took long enough, but my routine and sense of normalcy is back. Holy crap, have I missed it.
So with that all being said, I thank you all for stopping by my corner of the Internet. I hope your week ahead is wonderful and peaceful.
Yours in writing and life,
Allison
