Sometimes whims work out far better than you can ever imagine.
Yesterday afternoon Mom and I were trying to decide where to go for my birthday dinner. I knew I wanted a steak, as is birthday tradition. Mom received a $100 gift card for Cameron Mitchell Restaurants from her work.
So far I’ve been to two CM restaurants – The Pearl and Molly Woo’s Asian Bistro. While scrolling the CM website listing all of their restaurants, I saw a name that I recognized as being close to my home: The Barn at Rock Fork Creek. There were two reservations left, so I selected the later one and told Mom the news: we’re getting steak for my birthday.
Located right between Gahanna and New Albany off Johnstown Road and across the street from Highbank Distillery, The Barn itself is equal parts rustic and elegant. The warm red double doors greeted us, and as we walked into the waiting room we were impressed with the ambiance of the Christmas trees and decor. It was so cozy and beautiful there. We got to The Barn a little before our 6 PM reservation, but had no problem getting seated at our table.

Unfortunately I didn’t catch our waiter’s name, but as soon as we sat down he was right there and remained attentive throughout the evening. The first thing we got was the bread basket, served with a side of honey cinnamon butter. Mom and I wondered if we’d get a bread basket and I was half expecting a harder bread like I’ve had at other restaurants, so the fact they were soft dinner rolls was a pleasant surprise.
Next came the salads. Mom ordered a spinach salad which came with a bacon balsamic vinaigrette, chopped egg and red onion. I ordered the wedge salad, which consisted of iceberg lettuce, tomato, bacon, pickled rec onion and bleu cheese dressing. You know how some tastes are acquired? Over this past year I’ve become a fan of bleu cheese, and that salad was delicious.

Then it was time for dinner. We both ordered the 12-ounce Allen Brothers NY Strip with loaded baked potatoes on the side. I decided to get mine medium, and couldn’t get over how perfect it was. The size, the presentation, the taste. This might have been one of the best steaks I’ve ever had.

The waiter asked if there was a special occasion. I confirmed it was my birthday. So for dessert, I got a coconut cake on the house.

Final verdict:
The Barn at Rocky Fork Creek was a 10/10 experience. From the service to the food to the ambiance, I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday dinner. The Barn at Rocky Fork Creek is located at 1370 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. For more information, you can hop over to the website here.
Yours in life and dining,
Allison
