I just realized how much time has passed since my last update. Frankly, it doesn’t do me any favors to go that long away from writing, but I can explain.
Life offline got super busy.
To get you all up to speed: in a few weeks I’m making a lateral transfer to a different team at work.
Back in September I interviewed for an underwriter position on the new team. Ultimately I did not get it, which wasn’t surprising or all that disappointing. It turned out there was some technical knowledge they were looking for and I didn’t have it, but the hiring manager and I agreed the knowledge would come with more time at the company.
Then in December my boss mentioned that New Team had some open slots for the role I’m currently doing and asked if I would be interested in a lateral transfer. I said yes, and after about two-ish months of waiting for external interviews to be completed and paperwork on HR’s end, I got the word I’m moving over the week of March 17th.
So for the past week and a half, I’ve been working on transition tasks so there’s no backlog when I move over. I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but this past week and the week prior felt like I was back in college trying to get all the term papers done and submitted before midnight.
Continuing along with the college comparison, I’ve also been studying for the AU61. Remember the test I took last fall and didn’t pass? I’ve decided I need to get this taken on March 9th, so I’ve been studying (cramming) everything I could ever need to know about construction types and fire suppression into my evenings and weekends. This time around I feel better about taking the exam, and at the same time, I’m also nervous about the timeline. I want to pass this thing and be done with it, so I can move on to the AU62 and get this designation before the end of the year.
There’s no difference between the AU61 and studying for semester exams, even down to the questionable stress eating decisions.
So March 9th is the deadline for the AU61, and March 12th is my final day on my current time. Then it’s off on an adventure that I can’t wait to tell you about once I’m home. Stay tuned and until next time …
Allison
