Goodbye, Sagittarius season

Written by:

And with a bang, Sagittarius season comes to a close.

My season happens to coincide with fracas and celebration, as well as some heightened stress from wanting to get all the loose ends of 2025 tied up. Yearly reviews? Check. Benefits selection? The enrollment window closes on December 1st at midnight.

There’s also the Christmas markets and lights to drive through, and downtowns around me to see before the trees and storefront decorations are taken down on January 3rd or 4th. Assuming we don’t have any snowstorms roll in around Dec. 12th (which we did and I found myself fantasizing about Arizona again. Oh, to be reunited with the cacti and In-N-Out.)

But we got that high note in the form of a belated birthday celebration.

Over the summer my stepdad bought Mom and me tickets to see a matinee of SIX. SIX tells the story of the six wives of Henry VIII, but this time the wives are pop icons and the concert-style musical gives the girl group the chance to tell their stories and compete to see who got the worst deal as Henry VIII’s wife.

Pre-tween Allison was obsessed with Tudor-era England. Mom’s down with an afternoon of girl power and good music.

So on Saturday afternoon we got dressed up and went downtown to see a Broadway spectacular.

But first we wanted to wander around (and find a good parking spot), so we got there a little early. I haven’t wandered downtown Columbus for a hot minute since moving north, so playing tourist was fun.

The play was at the Palace Theatre, which is next door to Hotel LeVeque. The hotel lobby is beautiful around Christmas time, with the large glittering tree bringing glamour to an already-stunning Art Deco hotel. Mom and I took advantage of the opportunity to get some pictures with the tree. Then it was time to head next door to the Palace Theater for our show.

Knights and dames, SIX was incredible.

It was high-energy, it was hilarious, and it delivered the girl power as promised. Mom and I are still talking about it.

Winter Solstice Sunday was quieter by comparison, but still a good day. We started our day with a cookie cake – “calorie-wise it’s probably not that far off from being like a donut,” Mom concluded – and then decided to go wander Uptown Westerville to see the ice sculptures, as well as get lunch out at our favorite Greek place.

It really was a weekend well-spent.

So now we move into Winter. My family decided Christmas this year will be low-key. Then it’s time to get ready for 2026 because the new year never really starts on January 1st.

I hope all of you who celebrate have a peaceful Christmas. Until next time!

Yours in life and writing,

Allison
