I have the 2026 runner’s log to track my runs and workouts. My preference is five days of some sort of activity with two days off. However, every year I start out so energetic and optimistic, I fail to take into account I live in Ohio and it’s January.
I also fail to take into account that I am a woman and like every other woman who has ever walked the face of the earth, there’s one week out of the month where, um, the systems are working and all the bodily resources are dedicated to supporting that process.
So I got my runs in, and that’s the best we (myself and my systems) could do.
Impressing no one, Week 3 went as follows:
M – An hour and 15 minutes of resistance training, with primary focus on my upper body. Ten minutes after I got done I felt like Wonder Woman. 24 hours later I felt like death warmed over.
T – 4 evening miles on the treadmill. Originally I was going to run in the morning, but wound up sleeping in, which is pretty rare for a work day.
W– Rest day.
TH – Unplanned rest day. Coffee wasn’t working.
F – 6 morning miles. There was a light at the end of the sleepy tunnel and I felt strong once I was done.
SA – Unplanned rest day.
SU – 8 miles in the evening. They weren’t strong, fun or happy miles. But I also wasn’t going in with that expectation after how I’d been eating over the weekend either.
The Week 3 Recap:
I could probably just write “I hate this cold” and call it a day.
Which is true and definitely playing a role in my training going, but not really going how I want it to.
Before writing today’s post I skimmed over last week’s and realized that with the exception of my monthly thing passing through, Week 2 and Week 3 really weren’t that different. So in a first for The Broad Running Broad, I have a short training recap.
Reader-friends, I appreciate you stopping by my corner of the internet. Hopefully wherever you are in the world, you are far warmer than I currently am. Because this frigid below-average temperatures baloney is for the birds and it’s throwing off my groove, in addition to killing me on my electricity bill.
Yours in life and running,
Allison
